Testing the Build Equinox CERV2 at The Distillery North

Ty Newell, co-founder of Build Equinox, and Fred Gordon, owner/developer of The Distillery North finalizing the install of a CERV2 system.

We’re happy to say that we’re continuing our test of an innovative indoor air technology here at The Distillery. The CERV2 from Build Equinox is a new design that integrates a heat pump, fresh-air intake, high-grade filtration, smart air sensing, and UV sterilization. It achieves higher air changes per hour while maintaining energy efficiency. One of the unique traits of the CERV2 is how it actively monitors CO2 and Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) levels to determine when ventilation is necessary, taking it well beyond conventional air handling. This is part of our ongoing exploration of new ways to achieve Passive House energy efficiency while maximizing air quality in the home.

The co-founder of Build Equinox and co-inventor of the CERV technology is Ty Newell, engineer and Professor Emeritus at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, who has spent years developing and testing these new systems. He recently visited The Distillery to oversee the installation of a CERV2 system in the apartment of developer and owner Fred Gordon.

The CERV2 was installed here in owner Fred Gordon’s a two-bedroom unit, replacing the Zehnder Heat Recovery Ventilator that was originally specced for this Passive House building.

We’ll keep you posted on results. We encourage you to reach out if this field is of interest.
